Jim Ward

Jim Ward is the show's voice artist. His uncanny impressions and comedy bit writing skills are featured in the "Stand Up News" and "Tinsel Talk" segments, though he shifts into characters many times throughout each show. His fondness for absurd humor is highlighted by his offbeat "Guess the Quote" responses. He takes on a more earnest tone for his occasional "Conspiracy Corner" segments. In discussions during the show, Jim displays an extensive knowledge of languages and history.
James K. Ward was born in San Francisco on May 19, 1959. He lived in Santa Rosa briefly before his family moved to the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles. His father was a professor of German and Folklore at UCLA, which enabled Jim to spend some time in Germany as well. Jim went to Grant High School and then on to the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, where he hobnobbed with future celebrities such as Tim Robbins and Daphne Zuniga. In developing his own mix of comedy, politics, and impressions, Jim was inspired by comedians like David Frye and Mort Sahl. Among more contemporary artists, Jim is a fan of Harry Shearer.
Jim has appeared in various local L.A. theater productions since the eighties. Jim's most prolific professional activity has been providing character voices for video games, including the Ratchet & Clank and Star Wars series. He also has voiced numerous characters for animated films and TV series, such as Ben 10, The Fairly Oddparents, and Wolverine & The X-Men. Jim and Steph both were voices in the latest Biker Mice from Mars series, for which Jim won a 2009 Daytime Emmy award as “Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program”. His recent work includes miscellaneous voices in the Pixar movie WALL-E and the role of Al Gore in an episode of the PBS cartoon series Click and Clack.
Jim has also landed some roles in front of the camera, making guest appearances in the TV series Becker, According to Jim, Alias, and ER, among others. His most widely seen movie appearance was as the Project Coordinator in Spiderman, though his screen time was kept brief by a spectacular demise.
Jim joined the KABC-AM version of The Stephanie Miller Show in the late nineties, first as a fill-in for actor/impressionist Carlos Alazraqui, and later as the main "voice guy extraordinaire" when Carlos parlayed his success as the voice of the Taco Bell Chihuahua into other opportunities. For that show, Jim pre-recorded most of the comedy bits and usually was not present in the studio during the broadcast. In the new version of The Stephanie Miller Show, of course, Jim does just about everything live and has been elevated to "voice deity".
In the fall of 2007, Jim gave up alcohol, ironically just as Stephanie was experimenting with increased intake to deal with insomnia. In September 2008 he released a comedy album,Apocryphal But True, available on its namesake website and on iTunes. During the last weekend of June 2009, Jim married his girlfriend Janice in a private ceremony without guests (or any prior announcement); Janice’s name was part of a running joke on the show, as Jim’s hopeful female fans would deliberately misstate it in faux derision (e.g., “Janiqua”).
